The Foundry Mixed Use Office

Architecture is more than just a container for life’s activities. It can make a place, lift spirits, and improve productivity. Jeffrey Eyster’s design for this new 40,000 square foot office/retail building in downtown Los Angeles uses a glassy flatiron retail space as a balcony for a restaurant/bar, which becomes a covered balcony for creative office space. Under the belly of the building is an adapted industrial underground oil holding tank that is remodeled into a speak-easy whisky bar. The deep overhang shades south facing glass and frames a public place connected to the sidewalk with wide inviting stairs.
